Four persons, including two children, were killed in an accident on the Shoghi-Anandpur-Mehli road near Himachal Pradesh capital Shimla late Tuesday (March 26, 2025) night.
The incident occurred when the car, coming from Shoghi towards Mehli, veered off the road near a bridge close to Sheel village and plunged into a deep gorge, about 100 feet below. All the four occupants of the car died on the spot.
The victims have been identified as Rupa Suryavanshi (45), wife of Bhagwan Das, Prakti (15), daughter of Bhagwan Das; Mukul (10), son of Hetram, a resident of Janaki Niwas, Navabahar; and Jai Singh Negi (40), son of Padma Dev Negi, a resident of Ambika Cottage near Omkar Lodge in Sanjauli.
According to the police, the incident took place around 8 pm on Tuesday. Local residents who heard about the accident rushed to the scene and immediately alerted the police.
Due to the darkness and the challenging terrain, the police team faced significant difficulty in descending into the gorge to rescue the victims. The SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) and fire brigade personnel were summoned to assist in the rescue operation.
By the time the rescue team reached the bottom of the gorge, all four persons had succumbed to their injuries. The rescue team managed to recover the bodies from the deep gorge and shifted them to hospital for postmortem.
