Himachal Pradesh is grappling with an escalating drug crisis as ‘chitta’ (heroin) continues to destroy young lives. Investigations have revealed that some police personnel and even political figures may be involved in the drug trade.
Acting on complaints, the Himachal Pradesh Police Special Task Force (STF) conducted raids across various districts of Himachal Pradesh, targeting police officials and known drug peddlers. A list of 60 suspects has been prepared, though their direct involvement remains uncertain.

The STF conducted selective raids, including on police personnel and politicians. However, sources claimed that drug traffickers were alerted before the operation, making it difficult to seize concrete evidence.
Initially planned for the previous week, the raids were postponed for undisclosed reasons. Multiple mobile phones were seized during the searches, and authorities are now analysing them for potential connections between law enforcement and traffickers.
Raids were conducted in all districts except Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur, with searches at the residences of police personnel in Una, Baddi and Bilaspur leading to embarrassment for the Home Department. The crackdown has also sparked discussions in the Home Guard and Vigilance Bureau.

Government tightens grip on drug menace

The rising availability of ‘chitta’ has led to several deaths. The state government is preparing stringent measures against drug traffickers and their accomplices.
In Kullu, five police personnel are under investigation while searches were conducted at the residence of one police officer and another individual in Bilaspur. In Solan, one police official is under scrutiny while in Sirmaur and Baddi, one police official each was raided.
