Himachal Pradesh Congress spokesperson and former Zila Parishad member Kaushal Moongta has strongly criticized BJP leaders Suresh Bhardwaj, Suresh Kashyap, and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur, urging them to stop making personal remarks against Education Minister Rohit Thakur and instead reflect on their own party’s record.
Addressing the media, Moongta said that the people of Jubbal-Kotkhai-Nawar are well aware of the political realities of the region and will not allow political interests to overshadow development issues. While welcoming Jairam Thakur and Suresh Kashyap to the constituency, he questioned the BJP leadership over the circumstances that led to Chetan Bragta being kept out of the party for six years.
Moongta alleged that during the BJP government’s tenure, horticulturists suffered due to the withdrawal of subsidies on fungicides and pesticides, while the Guma carton factory was sold at throwaway prices. He also claimed that despite raising the issue of the Universal Carton scheme, the BJP failed to implement it during its rule. According to him, the Congress government, with the efforts of Revenue and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi and Education Minister Rohit Thakur, successfully fulfilled that long-pending demand.
Highlighting achievements in the education sector, Moongta said that Himachal Pradesh has witnessed significant progress under Rohit Thakur’s leadership. He further accused the previous BJP government of neglecting development works in Jubbal-Kotkhai, claiming that only five roads were sanctioned during its five-year tenure, whereas more than 200 roads have been approved during the current Congress government’s term.
Taking a swipe at MP Suresh Kashyap, Moongta said it was ironic for him to take credit for PMGSY roads, alleging that if his influence had been so effective, his own constituency would have benefited more substantially from the scheme.
Moongta also raised concerns over the Theog-Hatkoti road project, alleging that political considerations led to delays in its construction, causing hardship for local residents. He demanded that BJP leaders clarify their role in the matter.
Targeting former Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj, Moongta remarked that his tenure was remembered more for the controversy surrounding expensive flower pots than educational reforms. He said BJP leaders should first account for their own performance and expenditure before questioning the achievements of the present government.
Referring to recent local body elections, Moongta claimed that the BJP had suffered a major setback in the region, failing to secure any Zila Parishad seat, while Congress-backed candidates performed strongly in BDC and Panchayat elections.
He further highlighted that several key institutions have been established in the area under the present government, including a Kendriya Vidyalaya in Kotkhai, a Sub-Judge Court, a Teacher Training Institute in Jubbal, a B.P.Ed College in Hatkoti, and a B.Ed College in Tikker.
Moongta concluded by stating that the people of Jubbal-Kotkhai are seeking answers on development, horticulture welfare, and basic infrastructure, and urged BJP leaders to focus on these issues rather than engaging in political rhetoric against Congress leaders.
