Academician and social worker Prof. Anupama Singh has been appointed as the State President of the Himachal Pradesh Mahila Prakoshth of Ekal Abhiyan, a nationwide voluntary organisation engaged in education, rural development and community service.
The appointment entrusts Prof. Singh with the responsibility of leading the organisation’s women’s wing in Himachal Pradesh and expanding its outreach through initiatives focused on women’s empowerment, education, social harmony and village development.
Expressing her gratitude to the national leadership of the organisation, Prof. Singh said the appointment was both an honour and a significant opportunity to contribute to nation-building through community service. She said her priority would be to strengthen women’s participation in social initiatives across the state while promoting the values of service, cultural awareness, rural development and self-reliance.
“An empowered woman is the foundation of an empowered family, an empowered society and an empowered nation,” she said, adding that she would work with commitment to expand the organisation’s activities and encourage greater involvement of women in community development programmes.
Office-bearers and volunteers of Ekal Abhiyan congratulated Prof. Singh on her appointment and expressed confidence that the Himachal Pradesh Mahila Prakoshth would further strengthen its service initiatives under her leadership.

Ekal Abhiyan is one of India’s largest grassroots voluntary movements working in remote rural and tribal areas through its network of Ekal Vidyalayas (single-teacher schools). The organisation focuses on providing basic education to children while simultaneously promoting healthcare awareness, women’s empowerment, village development, sustainable livelihoods and social awareness.
Its activities also include value-based education through Sanskar Kendras, health and nutrition awareness programmes, organic farming initiatives and efforts to encourage self-reliance in rural communities. Guided by the principles of service, education and inclusive development, the organisation seeks to improve the quality of life in underserved regions across the country.
Ekal Abhiyan has received national recognition for its contribution to rural development and social service, including the Gandhi Peace Prize, one of India’s highest civilian honours for institutions engaged in social transformation.
