Shimla:
The Himachal Pradesh Police paid heartfelt tribute to its fallen heroes on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day, observed today with solemn dignity at the Vigilance Headquarters Complex in Shimla.
The ceremony was presided over by Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh, Sh. Ashok Tewari, IPS, and attended by senior officers from across the state, including representatives from various districts, battalions, and specialized units.
The commemorative parade, led by DySP Umeshwar Rana, featured contingents from the 1st IRBn Bangarh, 3rd IRBn Pandoh, and the Himachal Pradesh Armed Police Battalion, Junga. The parade commenced with a General Salute to the DGP and was marked by precision and reverence.
A poignant moment unfolded as the Martyrs’ Book was ceremonially brought to the memorial, followed by the reading of names of police personnel who laid down their lives in the past year. Wreaths were laid at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial by the DGP and senior officers, accompanied by the stirring notes of “Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon” played by the police band.
The ceremony concluded with two minutes of silence, the sounding of the Last Post, and the hoisting of the National Flag to full mast — a symbolic gesture of honour, sacrifice, and unwavering duty.
In his address, DGP Ashok Tewari paid rich tributes to the bravehearts who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. He also acknowledged the resilience and strength of their families, calling them the true pillars of the police fraternity’s spirit.
Police Commemoration Day is observed nationwide on October 21 to honour the memory of ten CRPF personnel who were martyred in 1959 at Hot Springs, Ladakh, while defending the nation’s borders. Since then, the day has become a solemn occasion to remember all police personnel who have laid down their lives in service to the nation.
