Chamba: Tensions have escalated once again in Himachal Pradesh as another bus of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) was targeted by Khalistan supporters in Punjab.

According to information, the windowpanes of the HRTC bus en route from Chamba to Delhi were smashed at Sirhind in Punjab.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety of Himachal-bound buses passing through Punjab and passengers travelling on it.

Midnight attack on HRTC bus

According to bus conductor Mohit Awasthi, the Chamba-Delhi HRTC bus from Pathankot depot departed from Pathankot at 7.10 pm via Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sirhind and Ambala.

Around 1 am as the bus was passing through Sirhind, an unidentified object — possibly a heavy stone — was hurled at the conductor-side window, causing it to shatter.

Shards of glass fell on a female passenger seated near the window, causing panic among the 30 passengers on board. The driver, Brijmohan, sensing the risk of further trouble, decided to keep driving rather than stopping.

HRTC lodges complaint, police investigation underway

Following the incident, the conductor immediately informed the HRTC authorities. Rahul Kumar, Regional Manager of HRTC’s Pathankot depot, confirmed that an FIR had been lodged at the Sirhind police station.

HRTC Sub-Inspector Rajesh Sagar had been dispatched to Punjab to oversee the investigation, he said.
A video of the damaged bus has since gone viral, intensifying concerns over the security of HRTC buses operating through Punjab.

Growing safety concerns for Himachal buses

This incident is the latest in a series of attacks on HRTC buses in Punjab, sparking demands for increased security measures. HRTC officials and transport unions have urged the authorities to take strict action to prevent such occurrences in the future.
