Mandi/Dharamshala, January 4
The journalistic fraternity and officials of the Mandi Information and Public Relations Department came together to pay homage to veteran journalist Kishori Lal Sood, who left an indelible mark on Himachal Pradesh’s media landscape.
In a solemn ceremony, heartfelt tributes were offered, and a two-minute silence was observed to pray for the peace of his departed soul.
Speaking on the occasion, senior journalist Birbal Sharma reflected on the towering contributions of Kishori Lal Sood, describing him as a pioneer among Himachal’s media professionals. “He achieved an extraordinary stature in journalism and served as a guiding light for countless journalists,” Sharma said, adding that his long association with Sood had been a source of immense learning.
Public Relations Officer Hemant Kumar also shared his reflections, stating, “Kishori Lal Sood was one of the most respected journalists of his era. His work ethic and dedication are benchmarks for the new generation of journalists.”
Echoing similar sentiments, Press Club president Murari Sharma hailed Sood as a pillar of journalism, emphasising his role during a time when journalism was seen as a mission rather than a profession. “He worked in an era when the essence of journalism was about serving society. His close associations with Himachal Pradesh’s first Chief Minister, Dr YS Parmar, and the epitome of integrity, Thakur Karm Singh, reflected his commitment to truth and unbiased reporting,” said Sharma.
Other speakers, including Bhagat Singh Guleria and Mahesh Chandra Sharma, reminisced about their interactions with Sood, recalling his humility, passion, and dedication to the profession.
The event was graced by prominent members of the media and public relations fraternity, including Press Club General Secretary Hansraj Saini, Vice-President Amandeep Agnihotri, Purushottam Sharma, APR Officer Vinod Kumar, Khemchand Shastri, Rajneesh Himalayan, Anil Sharma, Dharmchand Verma, Sonia Sharma, Saroj Thakur and Ashwini.
The ceremony served as a fitting tribute to a journalist whose legacy continues to inspire generations of media professionals in Himachal Pradesh and beyond.
