Mandi (Munish Sood)
A professor accused of sexually harassing two BTech students at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Mandi in Himachal Pradesh has been dismissed from service following an internal inquiry. The institute’s Board of Governors (BOG) acted on the findings of the Internal Complaints Committee, which substantiated the allegations against the accused professor.
According to information, the case was handed over to the ICC for investigation on the complaint of the two BTech girl students. The allegations made by the girl students were found to be true during the investigation and the committee recommended stringent action against the professor.
After this, the ICC report was placed before the BOG at a meeting. The BOG chairman and its other members took cognisance of the matter and decided to terminate the professor’s employment. Registrar KS Pandey confirmed that the dismissal was executed a month ago. However, the accused professor had challenged the decision and the case would now be referred to the President for further review, he said.
