282 Himachal hospitals covered under Ayushman Bharat Scheme, maximum in Kangra, Union minister tells MP in Parliament

In a significant development under the Ayushman Bharat — Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), Himachal Pradesh has empaneled 144 private and 138 government hospitals under the scheme, making quality healthcare accessible to the state’s residents.
Union Minister of State for Health Pratap Rao Jadhav shared the details while addressing Kangra MP Dr Rajeev Bhardwaj in Parliament.

Kangra leads in healthcare infrastructure

The district-wise distribution of hospitals reveals that Kangra has the highest number of empaneled facilities, with 33 private and 25 government hospitals, totaling 58. In contrast, Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur districts have the lowest figures, with just six government hospitals each.
Other districts such as Mandi (43 hospitals), Solan (32) and Una (32) also stand out for their robust network of healthcare facilities. Meanwhile, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Sirmaur have a more modest presence of empaneled hospitals.
Under the scheme, a total of 13,39,890 Ayushman cards have been issued in Himachal Pradesh as of October 31, 2024. Over 3.06 lakh patients have benefited from treatment under the scheme, with an expenditure of Rs 408.38 crore.

Nationwide reach of Ayushman Bharat

The Ayushman Bharat scheme has established a vast network of 29,870 hospitals across India, including 13,173 private hospitals, to provide medical services to beneficiaries.
In the northern region, Haryana has 724 private and 502 government hospitals under the PMJAY; Punjab 557 private and 217 government hospitals, Uttarakhand 189 private and 105 government hospitals and Chandigarh has 24 private and seven government facilities.
Among the states, Uttar Pradesh leads with the highest number of empaneled hospitals, totaling 5,802 (2,854 private and 2,948 government). On the other hand, Lakshadweep has the smallest network, with just five government hospitals empaneled under the scheme.
