MANDI, November 27
Dhalwara, Dehra: The inaugural event of the Inter-College Men’s Football Championship at Government College at Dhalwara in Dehra constituency of Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district was more than just about sports — it became a stage for a lighthearted exchange between Cabinet Minister Yadvinder Goma and Kamlesh Thakur, the local MLA and wife of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
The dignitaries were seated under a canopy, with students and players bustling around in anticipation of the event’s formal kick-off. Kamlesh Thakur, as a public representative, carried a list of demands for the betterment of the college.
As the programme reached its peak, Kamlesh leaned forward and handed a paper to Minister Goma. “Minister Goma, this is a list of the issues faced by Dhalwara college — urgent needs for new classrooms, better sports facilities and additional staff. I trust you’ll take these up with the Chief Minister,” said Kamlesh Thakur.
Minister Goma glanced at the paper, then smiled, setting the stage for his witty response. Yadvinder Goma said: “Ma’am, I must say, for us mere mortals, meeting CM Sukhu means securing an appointment first. But you, being both the MLA of Dehra and the Chief Minister’s better half, don’t have to go through such formalities!”
The audience burst into laughter, and Kamlesh joined in, acknowledging the humour but not letting go of her determination.
Kamlesh Thakur said: “Well, Minister Goma, you know the protocol better than I do. But don’t worry, I’ll put in my demands to you first and you can take them to the Chief Minister. Between the two of us, we will make sure the work gets done quickly!”
The banter continued, keeping the crowd entertained while reflecting their strong working relationship.
Minister Goma (chuckling) said: “It seems I’ll have to be extra careful with your requests, Ma’am. Your influence is double — first as the MLA, then as the CM’s wife. You’ve already got us surrounded!”
Kamlesh Thakur replied: “Surrounded, yes, but only with good intentions for Dehra and its people. Let’s ensure that these demands don’t take too long to become reality. After all, the students here deserve nothing but the best.”
Minister Goma said: “Absolutely, Ma’am. Rest assured, your list will be on my desk — and maybe even on the Chief Minister’s — by the end of the day!”
The lighthearted exchange gave way to a serious commitment from Minister Goma as he announced Rs 51,000 for the event and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to improving sports infrastructure in the state.
The camaraderie between the two leaders highlighted the importance of collaboration in governance. Their dialogue not only entertained but also underscored their shared commitment to the development of Dhalwara college.
