Rajesh Sharma, a seasoned expert in horticulture and food processing, has been honoured by The Newz Radar (TNR) for his remarkable contributions to Himachal Pradesh’s agriculture sector.
With a career spanning decades, Sharma has seamlessly blended his industrial expertise with public service, playing a pivotal role in modernising horticulture practices and empowering farmers across the state.
Strong academic and professional foundation
Sharma’s journey in the field began with a graduation in horticulture in 1992, followed by an MSc in food technology in 1995.
His career took off in 1996 when he joined a food processing plant in Gagret, Una, where he worked until 2008. During this period, he gained hands-on experience in food production and quality enhancement, particularly in the manufacture of packaged food for the Army, ensuring meals were not only nutritious but also tasty.
His professional endeavours extended to mushroom cultivation in Nalagarh, followed by a stint at Ruchi Spices in Baddi, where he further honed his expertise in food processing.
In 2009, Sharma transitioned into public service by joining the horticulture department, bringing his industrial knowledge to uplift the farming community.
Champion of bee-keeping and honey processing
Currently, Sharma oversees bee-keeping initiatives across six districts in Himachal Pradesh. He is also responsible for managing the honey processing plant in Chetru, where his expertise ensures high-quality honey extraction and packaging, helping local farmers gain better market access.
His efforts have significantly contributed to promoting honey production as a viable source of income for farmers.
Empowering farmers through knowledge, govt support
Beyond his technical contributions, Sharma plays an instrumental role in training and educating farmers about modern agricultural practices.
He actively works to spread awareness about government subsidies and schemes, ensuring that farmers maximise their benefits and enhance productivity.
His initiatives have helped many farmers shift from traditional to more profitable, technology-driven agricultural methods.
