Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur accused the Himachal Pradesh government of violating constitutional norms by allegedly obstructing the State Election Commission’s preparations for Panchayat elections.
Thakur said in the house that the government is using the disaster situation as an excuse to postpone Panchayat polls while failing to deliver relief even five months after the calamity. He criticised Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for being absent from the Assembly during a crucial discussion on the issue.
The BJP leader claimed the government blocked reservation rosters, halted delimitation work and tried to override the Commission even after the poll boundaries were frozen — calling it “direct interference in the Election Commission’s authority.”
He also alleged that the government is avoiding answers on jobs, appointments of advisors, OSDs, service extensions and reappointments made in the last three years.
Earlier, Thakur met Himachal’s Kabaddi World Cup–winning players Pushpa Rana, Bhawna Thakur and Champa Thakur, congratulating them and taking selfies with the champions.
