A serious incident has been reported from Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Waknaghat, in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district, where a B.Tech student allegedly attempted s*uicide by jumping from a hostel building on Wednesday.
According to preliminary information, the student suffered grievous injuries and was immediately taken to the university’s medical facility. Owing to his critical condition, he was subsequently referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC), Shimla. Sources indicate that the student is currently under intensive care and remains in a serious condition.
The incident has sparked unrest within the university campus, with reports of protests emerging soon after the episode. Sections of the student community have raised concerns over the handling of the situation and are demanding a transparent and time-bound inquiry by the administration.
While several claims are circulating on social media regarding the circumstances leading to the incident, there has been no detailed official statement from the university authorities so far. Students have also called for greater accountability and stronger institutional support systems.
Police sources confirm that the matter has come to their notice and an investigation has been initiated. However, the precise reasons behind the student’s alleged extreme step are yet to be ascertained.
The incident has once again brought into focus the pressing issue of mental health and student safety in higher educational institutions, highlighting the need for robust counselling frameworks and responsive administrative mechanisms.
