Himachal Head Constable caught red-handed taking bribe in Kangra, trapped by Vigilance team

Kangra: In a major breakthrough in the fight against corruption, the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested a head constable posted at Rehan police station in the Nurpur subdivision of Kangra district.
The officer was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 from a complainant.

Demanded Rs 10,000 to favour in investigation

According to official sources, the accused, Head Constable Dinesh Kumar, had demanded a total of Rs 10,000 in exchange for offering relief in a pending criminal case involving the complainant and his brother. The bribe was sought to dilute the investigation and provide favourable treatment. Acting on the complaint, the Anti-Corruption Bureau laid a trap and apprehended the constable while he was accepting the first installment of Rs 2,000.

Vigilance team recovers bribe money on spot

The anti-corruption bureau team recovered the bribe money on the spot during the sting operation.
Dinesh Kumar, a resident of Saklani village in Jawali, was immediately taken into custody. A case has been registered against him under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.


Nurpur SP Ashok Rattan confirmed the arrest and said that the department had zero tolerance for corruption. “The accused officer was nabbed while taking a bribe. Strict action will be ensured to maintain integrity within the police force,” he stated. Departmental proceedings have also been initiated against the head constable.
