Weather conditions once again took a severe turn in the tribal subdivision of Bharmaur, where around one foot of fresh snowfall was recorded on Tuesday night. The fresh snowfall significantly impacted normal life, disrupting power supply, damaging property due to an avalanche, and affecting road connectivity in the region.
Due to heavy snowfall, the electricity network suffered major damage. Out of 176 transformers under the Bharmaur Electricity Division, 102 transformers went out of service. Assistant Engineer Krishna Chand informed that despite extreme cold conditions, power department staff are continuously working on restoring electricity in the affected areas.
Meanwhile, a massive avalanche struck Oth Nallah in Gram Panchayat Poolan, causing damage to shops and vehicles. Panchayat Pradhan Anita Kapoor said that the Bharmaur administration has been informed about the incident. Tehsildar Bharmaur Tej Raj stated that three shops belonging to Gagan, son of Jaihri, resident of Poolan, were damaged. In addition, a pickup vehicle (HP-73/8462) and a tempo vehicle (HP-38F-7066) owned by Vanti, son of Desh Raj, were buried under snow along with shop goods loaded in the vehicle. He added that a detailed damage assessment is underway, and affected families will be provided all possible assistance.

In another incident, a deodar tree fell on the kitchen shed of Government Primary School Thukla in Gram Panchayat Jagat, causing considerable damage to the school building. Officials have sought a damage report in this case as well.
Heavy rain and snowfall also caused damage at several locations on National Highway-154A. Junior Engineer, National Highway Authority Chamba, Gajan Rana, informed that by Wednesday afternoon, the road was restored for heavy vehicles up to Khadamukh and for light vehicles up to Bharmaur, allowing essential supplies, including vegetable-laden vehicles, to reach Bharmaur.
Snow clearance work continued on other link roads under the Public Works Department Bharmaur Division. Assistant Engineer Sanjeev Sharma said that despite challenging weather conditions, departmental machinery and staff remain engaged in road restoration efforts to ensure connectivity across the region.
The fresh spell of snowfall has once again highlighted the challenges faced by residents of high-altitude tribal areas during harsh winter conditions.
