District-Level NCORD Meeting Held in Nurpur to Build a Drug-Free Society

In line with the directives of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, a district-level review meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was convened today at the office of Police District Nurpur. The meeting was chaired by the Superintendent of Police, Police District Nurpur.

Departments and Officials in Attendance The meeting saw participation from the Additional Superintendent of Police (STF) Kangra, officials from the Excise Department (ASTEO), Sub-Divisional Police Officers of Nurpur, Jawali, and Indora, as well as medical officers from the Health Department. Principals from the Education Department, the Tehsil Welfare Officer of Fatehpur, representatives from CDPO Nurpur, and delegates from de-addiction centres including Prayas Letri and IRCA Nurpur also joined. Several officials attended virtually via video conferencing.

Key Directives from the Meeting

  • Anti-Narcotics Committees: The chairperson highlighted that 22 highly sensitive panchayats have been identified in the district. SDMs and SDPOs were instructed to personally oversee the functioning of anti-narcotics committee meetings in these areas. So far, 59 such meetings have already been conducted across Police District Nurpur.
  • Active Participation: Each SDM and SDPO has been directed to attend at least one anti-narcotics committee meeting in their jurisdiction every month.
  • Awareness Campaigns: It was reported that awareness programs have already been conducted in 88 schools to educate students about the harmful effects of drugs. The Education Department was further advised to engage youth through sports and cultural activities to steer them away from addiction.
  • Inspection and Rehabilitation: Recent inspections of centres at Badu Khar, Letri, and IRCA Nurpur found facilities to be satisfactory. Special emphasis was placed on ensuring two-month follow-ups for patients post-treatment.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: The chairperson instructed all departments to regularly share details of their efforts in the campaign against drugs to enable effective monitoring at the district level.

The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to strengthen coordination among departments and community stakeholders in the mission to build a drug-free society.
