Former Mandi District Congress Committee President Deepak Sharma has been conferred the prestigious “Best Social Worker Award” at a grand ceremony in the national capital for his outstanding contribution to social service and community welfare.

The award was presented by noted actress Zareen Khan, in recognition of Sharma’s decades-long dedication to helping the underprivileged and his efforts during natural disasters and the Covid-19 pandemic. The hall echoed with applause as the award was announced, reflecting the public’s respect for his relentless service.

A Journey Rooted in Service

Deepak Sharma has long been known in Himachal Pradesh, particularly in Mandi district, for his work at the grassroots. From organizing free eye camps that enabled hundreds of poor and needy patients to access surgeries and treatment, to arranging ration supplies during the Covid-19 lockdown, Sharma has consistently positioned himself at the frontline of relief work.

During the peak of the pandemic, he personally ensured that stranded Himachalis in other states were brought back home safely, even bearing the expenses from his own pocket.

Relief Efforts During Disasters

In 2023, when Himachal Pradesh was hit by devastating floods, Sharma, with the support of an NGO, distributed essential relief materials including tarpaulins, blankets, medicines, and mosquito nets to around 4,500 affected families.

Again, in 2025, when another natural disaster struck, he was among the first to reach victims with urgent supplies, continuing his reputation as a leader who acts in times of crisis.

The “Aashirwad Yatra”

Sharma’s grassroots connect has also been reflected in his “Aashirwad Yatra” across Mandi Sadar Assembly constituency. Through this initiative, he has been meeting families at their doorsteps, listening to their concerns, and working towards practical solutions. Local residents describe the yatra as a rare example of sustained engagement by a political leader beyond elections.

An Emotional Acceptance

In his acceptance speech, Sharma dedicated the award to the people of Mandi and his supporters:
“This honor is not mine alone. It belongs to the people of Mandi and to all my colleagues who stood by me in this journey of service. I see myself only as a medium. This award inspires me to serve with greater sincerity, honesty, and dedication.”

He also underlined his philosophy of politics:
“For me, politics is not about power or position, but about service and sensitivity. Be it the Covid crisis or the floods, my aim has always been to stand with people in their joys and sorrows. The love, trust, and blessings of the people are my true wealth.”

Recognition Beyond Politics

Leaders and dignitaries present at the function hailed the recognition as a proud moment for Himachal Pradesh, especially for Mandi district. They noted that Sharma’s work exemplifies true leadership, which lies in living among the people and serving them selflessly.

The award adds a golden chapter to his long journey of service and reinforces his image as one of the most committed social workers of the state.

A Symbol of Commitment

For the people of Mandi, Sharma’s honor is more than a personal achievement – it is a reflection of the district’s values of compassion and resilience. By prioritizing welfare over politics, Deepak Sharma has carved a niche as a leader who combines activism with empathy.

As Mandi celebrates his achievement, the “Best Social Worker Award” stands as a national recognition of his unflinching commitment to social justice, humanitarian service, and people-centric leadership.
