CHAMBA: Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi is set to hold a significant election rally in Chamba district on May 27, the event coming shortly after BJP national president JP Nadda’s show of strength in the region where he targeted the Congress from Chamba’s Chaugan.
In response, the Congress aims to counter with a massive demonstration of support, bolstering their campaign in the final phase of the election season.
Priyanka Gandhi’s rally is strategically planned to energise Congress supporters and sway undecided voters. The choice of Chamba Chaugan, the same venue used by Nadda, underscores the Congress’ intent to reclaim political momentum in the district. The rally is expected to be a crucial event for the Congress, aiming to shift the election atmosphere in their favour.
Historically, Chamba did not frequently host national-level political leaders, but the district’s political importance has surged since the last Himachal Assembly elections. High-profile visits, including those by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, have elevated Chamba’s status on the political map. Last year, Chamba welcomed a series of prominent leaders, highlighting its emerging significance in national politics.
Priyanka Gandhi’s visit aims to boost the candidature of Anand Sharma, a senior Congress leader whose influence and contributions are a focal point in the campaign. By highlighting Anand Sharma’s legacy, Congress intends to reinforce his political significance and appeal to local voters.
In her upcoming rally, Priyanka is expected to address key issues and present the Congress’ vision for Chamba and beyond. The rally is anticipated to draw a large crowd, reflecting the growing political engagement in the district. The event marks a critical juncture in the election campaign, as both major parties vie for dominance in Chamba, a district that, despite having only four Assembly constituencies, has become a pivotal battleground in the state’s politics.
