Shimla, January 12

Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has accused the Himachal Pradesh government of pushing the state into chaos due to its alleged administrative failures.
In a statement issued from Shimla, Thakur stated that for the past two months, the state treasury has been “unofficially closed,” causing severe hardships for the public.
“It is unprecedented in the history of Himachal Pradesh that the treasury has been rendered non-functional, leaving people unable to access their own money. Payments for all services, including essential ones, are stalled, causing massive losses to the state,” he said.
Thakur criticised the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led government for its mismanagement, claiming that even essential medical supplies have been cut off due to non-payment to suppliers. “This government, under the guise of ‘system transformation,’ has created a governance collapse. Vendors’ payments are on hold, schools are being shut and the public distribution system is in shambles,” he said.
Highlighting the plight of the healthcare system, Thakur alleged, “The health sector has been ruined. Payments under the Himcare scheme are stalled, leaving patients unable to access free treatment. Hospitals are running out of medicines as suppliers have stopped deliveries. Employees’ medical bills are also pending. This is a government of chaos and failure.”
He further criticised the government for not fulfilling its pre-election promises. “Every day, different groups are holding press conferences against the government. The Congress, which came to power on false guarantees, has now distanced itself from its promises. The Chief Minister must take responsibility, lift the restrictions on the treasury and ensure the pending bills are cleared,” he demanded.
Thakur concluded by warning that the government’s inaction will further stall development and erode public trust. “This government needs to end its irresponsible behaviour and address the people’s concerns immediately,” he said.
