The series of road accidents in Chamba district shows no sign of slowing down. In the past month alone, more than half a dozen accidents have occurred, claiming over a dozen lives.
Late last night around 11 p.m., two young men riding a motorcycle near Sahu ITI reportedly lost control and plunged nearly 500 feet into the Sal River gorge. Rescue teams managed to pull out 17‑year‑old Shubham in critical condition from the riverbank and rushed him to hospital for treatment. However, the search continues for 19‑year‑old Saksham, who remains missing.
Both youths are said to be residents of Saru, Chamba, and were returning home after attending the Minjar fair when the tragic accident occurred.
Teams from NDRF, Chamba Police, Fire Department, and Himachal Home Guard have been conducting an intensive search operation since the incident, combing the river and surrounding terrain to locate the missing youth.
Authorities urge caution as the district continues to witness frequent accidents on its steep and winding roads.
