Shimla: — BJP legislators Sudhir Sharma, Ashish Sharma, and Tirlok Jamwal today addressed a press conference in Shimla, raising concern that some of their listed questions were not included in the business list of the ongoing Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly session.
The MLAs described the development as “unprecedented” and said it could “set a wrong example” for the functioning of democratic institutions. They urged the Speaker and the government to ensure that questions from all members are given due consideration in the House.
Sudhir Sharma told reporters that one of the questions he submitted pertained to the distribution of funds by KCC Bank to Mahila Mandals in the Dehra constituency during elections. He said he expected a clear response in the assembly but was disappointed that it did not appear on the list.
Tirlok Jamwal added that the Opposition has also sought answers on the government’s excise policy, which, according to him, requires greater clarity for the benefit of traders and the public. He said unanswered questions leave stakeholders uncertain and create confusion.
The MLAs collectively argued that omission of questions raised by Opposition members could weaken legislative oversight. “Raising issues of public importance is the core of our responsibility. Every question, whether uncomfortable or not, deserves a reply on the floor of the House,” one of them said.
The press conference comes at a time when the Assembly has already seen heated exchanges between the treasury and Opposition benches. Recently, BJP MLAs staged a walkout after disruptions over use of certain expressions in the House .
Meanwhile, monsoon-related losses estimated at over ₹2,700 crore have dominated proceedings, with the Opposition urging the state to seek national calamity status for the disaster.
The Speaker’s office has not yet issued a statement on the specific concerns raised by the three BJP legislators.
