Chamba: With the sacred Manimahesh Yatra set to begin on August 16, BJP MLA from Bharmour Dr Janak Raj undertook a 17-km trek on foot from Holi to Manimahesh to inspect the arrangements being made for the annual pilgrimage.
Demonstrating personal commitment, the MLA also participated in a cleanliness drive, encouraging residents and pilgrims to maintain hygiene along the yatra route.
Focus on cleanliness, basic facilities
Dr Janak Raj launched the cleanliness campaign by sweeping the area himself, sending a strong message about the importance of sanitation. He emphasised that the Manimahesh Yatra is not just a religious event but also a collective responsibility to ensure cleanliness and discipline.
Over 200 toilets are being constructed along the route and the MLA personally reviewed the progress of this essential facility.
During his visit, Dr Janak Raj reviewed preparations concerning drinking water, medical aid, sanitation, security and accommodation. He issued clear instructions to the district administration to prioritise pilgrim safety and comfort, warning that negligence at any level will not be tolerated.
Officials directed to stay alert on all fronts
The MLA also visited key points along the pilgrimage route and discussed arrangements for langars (community kitchens), first aid centres, cleanliness and traffic control. He urged all departments to stay fully alert and responsive throughout the yatra period.
Dr Janak Raj’s proactive involvement has generated enthusiasm among locals and volunteers, setting a tone of cooperation and discipline ahead of the spiritual journey to the revered Manimahesh Lake, located in the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas.
