In a significant boost to the healthcare infrastructure of the state’s winter capital, the multi-speciality Motherland Hospital was formally inaugurated today in Dharamshala. The facility was opened to the public by Hemraj Bairwa (IAS), Deputy Commissioner of Kangra, marking the culmination of a deeply personal mission to bring quality medical care to the hill station.
A Vision Born from Tragedy
The establishment of Motherland Hospital is not merely a commercial venture but a tribute to resilience. The project is the brainchild of Dharmendra Singh Kanwar, who spearheaded the mission following a personal tragedy.
Years ago, Kanwar lost his wife due to the critical lack of advanced medical facilities and timely intervention within the town. Forced to witness the struggles of residents who often have to travel long distances to Tanda Medical College or even Chandigarh for emergency care, Kanwar vowed to transform his grief into a community asset.

“No one should have to lose a loved one simply because they couldn’t reach a specialist in time,” said Kanwar during the ceremony. “This hospital is dedicated to the people of Dharamshala, ensuring they have access to affordable and better medical facilities right at their doorstep.”
State-of-the-Art Healthcare for the Hills
Inaugurating the facility, DC Hemraj Bairwa lauded the initiative, noting that private-sector participation is crucial in supplementing government efforts to provide holistic healthcare in difficult terrains. He emphasized that such institutions are vital for a region where geography often poses a challenge to medical accessibility.
Key features of the new hospital include:
- Multi-Speciality Wings: Dedicated departments for Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Orthopedics.
- Advanced Diagnostics: Modern imaging and laboratory services to reduce turnaround time for critical diagnoses.
- Affordability focus: A commitment to providing high-quality care at subsidized rates for the local population.
Strengthening the Region’s Medical Map
The opening of Motherland Hospital is expected to ease the burden on regional government institutions. For the residents of Dharamshala and surrounding villages, the facility represents a “Golden Hour” lifesaver—providing immediate stabilization and treatment that was previously unavailable in the immediate vicinity.
Local residents present at the inauguration expressed their gratitude, citing the hospital as a long-awaited necessity for a town that sees a high influx of tourists and has a growing permanent population.
With its doors now open, Motherland Hospital stands as a testament to the fact that personal loss, when channeled through a vision of service, can heal an entire community.
