Helping Hand for Homeless People Living with Mental Illness in Kangra

PREETI
Dharamshala: A three-day special drive will be conducted in Kangra from October 7 to 9, 2026, to identify and assist homeless and destitute people living with mental illness.

The initiative has been launched by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kangra at Dharamshala, with the aim of ensuring timely medical care, safety, dignity and necessary support for people living in vulnerable conditions.

DLSA Secretary Mihul Sharma said that during the campaign, such individuals will be identified and provided with medical examination, safe rescue and appropriate treatment. Depending on their needs, they may also receive counselling, rehabilitation assistance and social support to help them return to a more dignified and stable life.

The campaign will be carried out in coordination with the district administration, police, Health and Family Welfare Department, Social Justice and Empowerment Department, along with other concerned departments and para-legal volunteers.

Public Can Help Identify Those in Need

The DLSA has also appealed to the public to actively support the initiative. Anyone who comes across a homeless person who appears to be struggling with mental illness can inform the concerned administrative authorities or the District Legal Services Authority.

For assistance or to report a case, the DLSA Kangra at Dharamshala can be contacted at 01892-222370 or through the toll-free helpline 15100.
