Alleges saffron party misusing Mandi’s Sardar Patel university to further own ideology
MANDI: Congress candidate from the Mandi parliamentary seat Vikramaditya Singh has said that there are no princes in Himachal Pradesh, and he is not one either. “I am a Hindu and a Rajput,” he emphasised during a press conference in Mandi.
Vikramaditya pointed out that many individuals from erstwhile royal families are now affiliated with the BJP, naming figures such as erstwhile Kullu king Maheshwar Singh, the Maharaja of Patiala, the Maharaja of Mysore, the Maharani of Jaipur and the Maharaja of Gwalior. He criticised actress Kangana Ranaut for her baseless statements, asserting that if anyone should be addressed as royalty in Himachal, they were these “kings of the BJP”.
Vikramaditya expressed concern over the state of Sardar Patel University in Mandi, which he claimed had become a stronghold for a particular ideology. “The previous Jai Ram government opened the university in a small room, which is not how a university should function,” he remarked. He accused the BJP of attempting to politicise the university without focusing on its infrastructure. Singh vowed to ensure the university operates effectively with the support of the community.
Addressing the issue of stray animals, Singh promised that if elected as a Member of Parliament, there would not be a single stray animal on the roads in the Mandi parliamentary area. He pledged to work with the government, administration, and NGOs to establish more shelters for stray animals. “As a Hindu, it is our duty to take proper care of livestock and not leave them abandoned on the roads,” Singh stated. He assured that these efforts would help provide proper shelter for stray animals and alleviate public concerns.
Vikramaditya shared his five point road map for the development of Mandi Parliamentary Constituency which included developing Mandi town as a Smart City, construction of Bhu Bhu Jot tunnel, construction of Jalori Jot tunnel, channelisation of River Beas and Suketi and Renovation of centuries old temples.
