A western disturbance has become active in Himachal Pradesh from Thursday (May 9, 2024), following which most parts of the state, including Shimla, are cloudy since morning. The weather forecast suggests the likelihood of rainfall across the state for the next six days.
In view of the forecast, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rain, thunderstorm and hailstorm for the next five days.
According to the IMD, the yellow alert is for the four districts of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Mandi for Thursday and on Friday, the alert will be for Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur in addition to the above mentioned four districts.
From May 11 to 13, the yellow alert will be for all the 12 districts of the state, indicating widespread rain. The western disturbance will weaken a bit on May 14. In such a situation, the rain will provide relief to the people from the sweltering heat and the temperature will decrease.
Currently, the temperature of 15 cities in the state has crossed 30 degrees Celsius. The mercury of Nairi reached 39.5 degrees Celsius, Una 36.1, Sundernagar 34.8, Bhuntar 32, Dharamshala 31.4, Nahan 32.1, Solan 31, Kangra 35.3, Mandi 34, Bilaspur 36.1, Hamirpur 32.1, Chamba 32.1, Seobagh 31 and Dhaulakuan 35.3.
The forecast of rain has also given hope to those farmers whose crops are on the verge of drying up due to the lack of rain. The winter didn’t witness timely snowfall, following which the level of water in drinking water sources is falling daily. In such a situation, the rain will give life to the crops of farmers and the water sources will be recharged.
