The Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government is scheduled to present its position in the Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) case at the Himachal Pradesh High Court on Wednesday (May 8, 2024).
The high court had conducted hearings in the case continuously for three days from April 22 to 24. On April 23, the government had requested the high court to schedule the hearing for May 8.
The government has engaged two senior Supreme Court advocates in the case. Also, the petitioners have already concluded their arguments in the case.
The Congress government has appointed six MLAs as CPS, a decision that has been legally contested by the petitioners who wanted the appointments to be quashed. However, in the last hearing, the high court declined to grant a stay on the CPS status.
In another matter, the high court faced difficulties convening a hearing on a plea seeking the cancellation of an FIR against Rakesh Sharma, former Uttarakhand Chief Secretary and father of disqualified Congress MLA Chaitanya Sharma, and Independent MLA Ashish Sharma on the second day.
Justice Vipin Chand Negi’s court is presiding over the case. Originally scheduled for after 2 pm, the hearing could not proceed due to the Advocate General’s prior commitments. When the Advocate General appeared in the high court on behalf of the government at 4 pm, he requested the court to reschedule the hearing for next Tuesday. Consequently, the court has adjourned the matter until May 14.
