The reorganisation of Himachal Pradesh Congress, which has been without a functional executive body for the past four months, is likely to be finalised soon.

On Sunday (March 23, 2025), Congress in-charge for Himachal Pradesh Rajni Patil held a crucial meeting in Delhi with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pratibha Singh.

The discussions focused on the formation of the state Congress committee and district committees, with sources indicating that the party may announce district presidents before March 27.

Final list submitted to high command

According to party insiders, Rajni Patil initially met the three leaders separately before convening a joint meeting later in the afternoon.

During the meeting, the state leadership finalised the list of district presidents and PCC office-bearers and submitted it to the high command for approval.

Earlier, party observers had already provided their reports to the central leadership. Rajni Patil had also sought feedback from party functionaries and leaders in a recent meeting in Shimla.

Approval from party president Kharge awaited

The appointments will be finalised only after the approval from Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
Sources said that the meeting also included discussions about appointments in various boards and corporations within the state.

Additionally, the Congress high command is reportedly considering increasing the number of districts and blocks within the party’s state unit, though many state leaders are not in favour of this expansion.

District presidents to be named before key meeting

In the initial phase, the party is expected to prioritise the appointment of district presidents. This is crucial as a national-level meeting of all Congress district presidents is scheduled for March 26-27 and April 3.
Himachal’s newly appointed district heads would be required to participate in the event, making their selection a top priority for the party leadership, said sources.
