‘Surprised’ by his name in probable candidates, RS Bali writes emotional letter to Congress high command, says ‘must consult Nagrota first’

After Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri’s daughter Aastha, it’s the turn of young Congress MLA from Nagrota Bagwan RS Bali to pen an emotional letter to the party high command clearing his stand on his potential candidature from Kangra for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Though Aastha had clearly expressed her inability to contest the Lok Sabha election from Hamirpur in view of the turmoil in her personal life following the recent demise of her mother, Bali hasn’t backed out of the contest but said that he needed to consult “those who mattered” in his Assembly constituency before taking any such decision.
Bali, whose father GS Bali was a veteran Congress leader from Kangra, has mentioned that he had lost two main pillars of his family over the past some time (both his parents), and that he was engaged in serving the people of Nagrota Bagwan, the legacy endows upon him by his father.
He wrote that the information on the party desiring him to contest in the Lok Sabha elections had reached him through the media. In response, Bali advocated for halting such discussions, emphasising that any decision by the party high command should involve consultation with him first. He asserted that his political trajectory would ultimately be determined by the people of Nagrota Bagwan, attributing his family’s current political standing to their support.
In the letter, Bali underscored the importance of fulfilling promises made by him during the Assembly elections, particularly regarding the commitment to generate 5,000 jobs for the people of Nagrota Bagwan and ensuring the completion of ongoing projects in his constituency.
Bali highlighted his 26-year tenure within the Congress, noting his role as co-in-charge in West Bengal and his initiative in organising the “Rozgar Yatra” during the previous BJP regime. He maintained that any decision to contest elections should be jointly made by the people of Nagrota Bagwan and the Congress high command. He also clarified that in his entire political career, he had neither aspired nor demanded any ticket from the party. He said his political future now rested in the hands of the people of Nagrota as following the demise of his parents, he regarded both the people of Nagrota Bagwan and the Congress as his custodians.
