Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Pratibha Singh along with her son and PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh met Congress parliamentary party president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Sunday (April 7, 2024), taking up various issued related to the state’s politics.
The Himachal Congress is learnt to be looking to bet on two MLAs for the Lok Sabha elections. Along with sitting MP from Mandi Pratibha Singh, the name of Vikramaditya has also been included in the panel of candidates for Mandi.
For the Shimla reserved Lok Sabha seat, the names of Kasauli MLA Vinod Sultanpuri and party leader Amit Nanda are doing the rounds. For the Kangra seat, former minister Asha Kumari and ex-MLA Jagjivan Pal are in the contention. For Hamirpur, only former MLA Satpal Raizada’s name is final.
Congress candidates for the Lok Sabha elections and six Assembly by-elections will be decided in the proposed central election committee meeting in New Delhi on April 11 and 13.
The names of potential candidates were shortlisted in the meetings of the coordination committee and screening committee held in New Delhi on Saturday. The search is on for strong candidates for the byelections in Sujanpur, Dharamshala, Barsar, Gagret and Lahaul-Spiti Assembly seats.
It is said to be almost certain that Vivek Sharma will be fielded from Kutlehar seat.
The meeting was chaired by Congress general secretary KC Venugopal and attended by state in-charge Rajeev Shukla, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Pratibha Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, former state president Kaul Singh Thakur and former minister Ramlal Thakur. Vikramaditya too attended the coordination committee meeting.
Vikramaditya is being considered capable as a young candidate to take on Kangana in Mandi parliamentary seat.
