Deadlock between councillors takes toll on Chamba’s development, welfare association seeks Himachal CM’s intervention

The Newz Radar
CHAMBA: The impasse among councillors in the Chamba Municipal Council is casting a shadow over the development of the historic town of Chamba. Consequently, the deteriorating condition of the city’s streets, drains and streetlights remains unaddressed, increasing the challenges faced by its residents.
In the monthly meeting of the Chamba Welfare Association, a resolution was unanimously passed urging the district administration to prioritise the matter and take decisive action. Under the leadership of association president Omprakash Goswami, members expressed deep concern over the prevailing situation, highlighting that the town’s development has come to a halt for nearly a month due to ongoing tensions among councillors.
The stalemate has stalled essential processes, including the tendering for development projects, leaving the streets in dire condition with numerous potholes and broken drains. Despite widespread issues with streetlighting, maintenance efforts are notably lacking.
Moreover, the association addressed the challenges arising from the ongoing strike by doctors, further raising the healthcare crisis in Chamba district. Recognising the urgent need for resolution, the association has decided to write letters to the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and the Deputy Commissioner of Chamba, advocating for swift intervention.
Association general secretary SK Kashmiri emphasised the need to ensure uninterrupted development despite the deadlock among councillors, prompting the Chamba Deputy Commissioner to petition the Himachal Pradesh CM for immediate action to resolve the doctors’ strike and mitigate the impact on public services.
