Mandi: Vallabh Government College, Mandi, is hosting a two-day international conference on “Emerging issues in biodiversity and environment for sustainable development”, from February 14 and 15.
With over 160 participants including scientists, professors, and researchers from India and across the globe, the conference is taking place in a hybrid format.
Those attending it are sharing their research papers both online and offline, focusing on various aspects of biodiversity and environmental concerns.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Additional Director (retired) Professor Krishna Kumar Vaidya, who delivered a comprehensive lecture on climate change, global warming, and the need for a balanced human-nature relationship.
College principal Prof Surina Sharma extended a warm welcome to the participants, highlighting the college’s history and the environmental significance of the Himachal Himalayas. The chief guest was presented with a memento to commemorate the occasion, alongside the unveiling of the conference’s souvenir.
Among the presentations, Associate Professor Dr Shashikant Bhatia from Konkuk University, South Korea, discussed “Microbes for sustainable development” online, while Professor M C Sidhu from Punjab University delved into “Biodiversity and its conservation strategy.”
Professor Dr Vinod Kumar Mattu from Himachal Pradesh University contributed with an online presentation on “Biodiversity, environmental sustainable development,” also serving as a keynote speaker for the inaugural session.
The first day saw six technical sessions, chaired by Dr Dayak Ram Thakur, featuring contributions from esteemed scientists, professors, and researchers such as Dr Geetika Thakur, Assistant Professor Aditi Sharma, and Assistant Professor Dr Anita Thakur.
Professor Dr Monica Panchani, head of the department of Life Sciences, noted the active participation of over 160 attendees in the international conference.
In addition to the aforementioned contributors, retired Professor Santosh Kashyap, patron of the International Conference, principal Professor Surina Sharma, convener Dr Monica Panchani, co-convener Dr. Sanjay Narang, secretary Dr Balbir Singh, joint secretary Professor Aditi Sharma, as well as various scholars, scientists, professors, researchers, and students from colleges in India and abroad, graced the occasion with their presence.
