Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) State Spokesperson Sanjeev Gandhi has lauded the Sukhu Government for its people-centric governance, stating that the government’s recent decisions demonstrate a commitment to delivering tangible benefits rather than making mere announcements.

Addressing the media, Gandhi said successive decisions taken by the state government reflect Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s sensitivity towards the concerns of the people. He noted that the government is simultaneously focusing on strengthening healthcare services and providing financial relief to employees through concrete policy measures.

Focus on Strengthening Healthcare Services

Highlighting recent healthcare initiatives, Gandhi said the government is committed to ensuring affordable and accessible treatment for ordinary citizens, particularly economically weaker families.

Among the major initiatives announced are the establishment of automated laboratory facilities in medical colleges with an investment of around ₹28-30 crore and the expansion of MRI and other advanced diagnostic services beyond major medical institutions. He added that district and zonal hospitals are being strengthened under the Adarsh Swasthya Sansthan initiative to improve specialist healthcare services closer to people’s homes.

According to Gandhi, these measures are aimed at enhancing diagnostic capabilities, increasing specialist availability and improving the overall quality of treatment in public healthcare institutions, thereby reducing dependence on costly private healthcare facilities.

Employee Welfare Measures Welcomed

Gandhi also welcomed the government’s latest employee welfare decisions, describing government employees as the backbone of the state’s administrative machinery.

He highlighted the recent 5 percent Dearness Allowance (DA) hike, raising DA from 45 percent to 50 percent. The enhanced allowance will be paid along with the October 2026 salary, scheduled for disbursement in November.

In another significant relief measure, regular Class-IV employees will receive an additional payment of ₹10,000 in November as part of their pending pay-revision arrears. Gandhi said the decision acknowledges the valuable contribution of employees in implementing development programmes and delivering public services across the state.

He noted that the DA increase covers installments effective from July 1, 2023, and January 1, 2024, and will provide meaningful financial support to employees and their families, particularly during the festive season.

Governance Driven by Action

Gandhi emphasised that the importance of these decisions lies in the government’s broader approach to governance. While healthcare reforms directly address the needs of patients and families, employee welfare measures provide financial relief and recognise the role of public servants in state development.

He said the government is pursuing these priorities despite financial challenges, with a continued focus on improving public services, strengthening social welfare and making governance more responsive to people’s needs.

“The real test of any government is its ability to understand people’s concerns and act upon them. The successive decisions of the Sukhu Government on healthcare and employee welfare reflect its intention to deliver tangible benefits rather than rely on political rhetoric,” Gandhi said.

He added that the government’s approach sends a clear message of public welfare over political posturing, action over rhetoric and accountable governance over empty promises.
