Kangra
Dharamshala’s world‑famous International Cricket Stadium, known for hosting thrilling matches against the backdrop of the Dhauladhar ranges, is set to witness something new this winter. Preparations have begun for the Kangra Valley Carnival, a special event featuring a live music concert in December, aimed at boosting tourism in the region.
Tourism Push
The carnival is being organized under the directions of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, with the dual purpose of promoting Kangra as a winter tourism hub and raising funds for future events.
Deputy Commissioner Kangra, Hemraj Bairwa, announced that entry to the live concert will be ticketed. The administration expects the carnival to attract large crowds, giving a significant boost to local tourism and businesses.
Preparations Underway
Authorities have directed all departments to ensure proper arrangements for cleanliness, traffic management, security, electricity, water supply, and health services. With thousands of visitors expected, special focus is being placed on crowd management and safety.
Social Awareness & Activities
Beyond entertainment, the carnival will also highlight social issues. Anti‑drug street plays under the “Anti‑Chitta” campaign will be staged, alongside marathon and cycling events. Local artists will get a platform to showcase their talent.
Boost for Local Products
Self‑help groups will be given stalls to display and sell their products, offering them wider reach and economic opportunities. The carnival is expected to benefit local artisans, small businesses, and tourism stakeholders alike.
