A critically ill patient from the remote and inaccessible Bara Bhangal region of Kangra district was successfully rescued and is now receiving treatment at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College & Hospital, Chamba.
The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Kangra and Deputy Commissioner Kangra alerted Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Bharmour, Vikas Sharma about the emergency. Due to adverse weather conditions, helicopter services were unavailable, prompting an immediate ground rescue operation.
Under ADM Sharma’s direction, a 13-member special mountaineering rescue team led by instructor Pankaj Mahant set out from Bharmour on July 18, 2026. Braving treacherous terrain and harsh weather, the team reached the patient the same night. On July 19, the patient was carried on a stretcher through difficult mountain paths, and by late evening, he was safely brought to Dharadi, where an ambulance was waiting. He was then rushed to Chamba hospital for urgent medical care.
Officials praised the courage, dedication, and teamwork of the rescue team, whose relentless efforts ensured timely medical assistance. The operation highlighted the effective coordination between Bharmour Disaster Management Authority, Chamba district administration, health services, and support staff, serving as a model of swift decision-making and commitment to public service.
