A month-long creative summer camp dedicated to nurturing young talent in music, dance, art, and vocational skills concluded at Sangeet Sadan, Mandi, on Friday. The Pratibha Creative Fusion Summer Camp, sponsored by the Pratibha Pushp Foundation, USA, ended with a vibrant cultural programme showcasing the participants’ artistic achievements.
District Language Officer Revati Saini, chief guest at the event, praised Sangeet Sadan for its long-standing contribution to promoting music and the arts. She noted that the institution has consistently provided a platform for young talent while equipping them with practical, self-employment-oriented skills. She added that the Language Department plans to hold similar workshops to preserve and promote Himachal Pradesh’s rich folk art and cultural heritage.
Gagan Kashyap, former Deputy Chairman of the Mandi Municipal Council and newly elected Municipal Corporation Councillor, attended as guest of honour. Commending the institution’s efforts, he remarked, “Music unites society, while politics often creates divisions. Perhaps politicians, too, should learn music.”
Director Umesh Bhardwaj said the annual camp focused on developing both artistic and vocational skills among young girls. Alongside training in vocal and instrumental music and dance, participants learned to make eco-friendly products from pine needles, artificial jewellery, and decorative handicrafts, enabling them to explore self-employment opportunities.
The valedictory function featured a rich cultural lineup — Saraswati Vandana, classical singing, Himachali folk performances, and dance presentations by trainees. A fashion show highlighting traditional Himachali attire was among the programme’s main attractions.
An exhibition of handicrafts and creative products made during the workshop reflected the practical skills gained through the month-long training.
Among those present were retired professor O.C. Malhotra, Rotarian Nalin Kapoor, senior litterateur Murari Sharma, members of the Old Boys Association, and several other distinguished citizens. The workshop was coordinated by Isha Dogra, while stage proceedings were conducted by retired teacher Jayshree.
