Truckers’ Strike Paralyzes Petrol-Diesel Supply, Fuel Pumps Run Dry

Shimla: The ongoing strike by truck drivers in the state has affected the supply of petrol and diesel. As a result, several places, including Shimla, are experiencing shortages of petrol and diesel. Many pumps have run out of petrol. If the strike does not end soon, petrol pumps across the entire state may run dry.
In response to the amendments made by the central government in the Motor Vehicles Act regarding the Hit and Run cases, provisions have been made for a penalty of up to seven lakh rupees and a ten-year sentence. Drivers across the country are on strike in protest against this. Many places in Himachal have also witnessed driver strikes. This has led to petrol pumps running dry in several areas. People are facing difficulty finding petrol at pumps.
It is reported that the supply of oil from the Indian Oil Corporation’s Una depot has been disrupted due to the strike. Currently, only those pumps that had stocked extra fuel in advance have some supply left, while those dependent on daily supplies are out of stock. If the strike does not end soon, all pumps could run dry. The shortage of oil has also led to buses being stranded. Additionally, daily supplies like milk, bread, and vegetables may be affected.
Meanwhile, Indra Lal Negi, Divisional Manager of Indian Oil Corporation, stated that alternative arrangements are being made for oil supply. Efforts are being made to supply from the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation depot in Nalagarh.
