Ancient Traditions Meet Modern Self-Defense at Unique Gurukul Event in Kotli

The resonating sound of the traditional Himachali Tamak echoed through the hills of Tungal Valley as a unique examination and skill demonstration programme celebrating Sanatan scriptures, traditional weapons training, yoga and self-defense was organised at the Gurukul (Sanatan Shastra and Shastra Vidya) operated by Team Black Panther in Kotli.

The event commenced with the sacred Brahmanad of the Tamak, creating an atmosphere charged with spiritual energy and enthusiasm. A total of 26 trainees underwent evaluation while nearly 150 parents, guests, and local residents attended the programme.

The examination was conducted by Team Black Panther founder Ajay Thakur, during which students demonstrated their proficiency across 38 different disciplines, including yoga, self-defense techniques, traditional weapons handling, physical fitness, balance skills, Sanskrit mantra recitation, Gurukul traditions, cultural awareness, and life-skills training. Participants impressed the audience with their discipline, confidence, and physical abilities.

The programme drew participation from several prominent personalities representing administration, sports, culture, social service, and local governance. Among those present were SDM Dharampur Joginder Patial, SDM Kotli Jagdish Kumar, Mind Operation Academy Director Ram Prakash Thakur, Guru Dronacharya Football Academy founder Lalit Kumar, Hindu Raksha Manch founder Kamal Gautam, Zila Parishad members Hemlata and Deepak Sharma, and BDC member Meera Devi.

Representatives of various panchayats, retired servicemen, athletes, social activists, parents, and local residents also attended the event, reflecting strong community support for the initiative.

Addressing the gathering, chief guest Ram Prakash Thakur stressed the importance of holistic education, saying that children today require not only academic excellence but also training in discipline, self-defense, yoga, cultural values, and character building. He described the initiative as a meaningful contribution towards nurturing responsible and confident citizens.

Other guests praised the students’ performance and noted that such programmes help young people remain connected to their cultural roots while enhancing their physical and mental strength.

Speaking on the occasion, Ajay Thakur said the Gurukul aims to instill awareness of Sanatan culture, traditional knowledge systems, yoga, leadership qualities, patriotism, and a spirit of service among children. He emphasized that blending India’s ancient traditions with modern self-defense training can play a significant role in the holistic development of the younger generation.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks to guests, parents, supporters, and local residents. More than just an examination, the programme emerged as a celebration of cultural heritage, discipline, courage, and character-building, leaving participants inspired by the enduring relevance of India’s traditional knowledge and values.
