In compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, a crucial District-Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) meeting was convened at the office of the Superintendent of Police, Nurpur. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Kulbhushan Verma (HPS), Superintendent of Police, Nurpur, and attended by SDMs, police officials, representatives from health, education, excise departments, and various NGOs.

During the meeting, the chair emphasized that legal action alone is not sufficient against drug traffickers. He directed that in cases involving commercial quantities, thorough financial investigations of movable and immovable assets must be ensured. Coordination with the revenue department was also stressed to expedite the removal of illegal encroachments made by traffickers.

The meeting reviewed the anti-narcotics efforts undertaken during February and highlighted the need for a multi-pronged approach. The SP urged the health department to provide counseling and rehabilitation support through de-addiction centers, helping individuals return to the mainstream.

To safeguard the younger generation, the education department was advised to promote sports and cultural activities regularly. Principals of educational institutions were requested to organize anti-drug awareness campaigns, involving police officers, medical experts, psychiatrists, psychologists, and even rehabilitated individuals as motivational speakers.

Officials were instructed to conduct joint inspections of medical shops near educational institutions to curb any illegal activities.

Concluding the meeting, the SP appealed to the public to actively support the campaign by using the ‘Drug-Free Himachal’ mobile app and the helpline number 1933.

This meeting marked a significant step towards building a drug-free society, combining enforcement, awareness, rehabilitation, and community participation.
