The decision to merge the Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Bhramour, with the local boys’ school has triggered widespread resentment in the region. Local residents, panchayat representatives, and social organizations argue that the move was taken without adequate consultation and runs contrary to the sentiments of the community.

According to former Panchayat Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Sanjui, Sanjeev Thakur, the girls’ school was established in 1955 by Mahant Jai Krishan Giri Maharaj. Over the decades, it has served not just as an educational institution but as a vital cultural, social, and academic identity for the area. Many alumnae have gone on to achieve success in diverse fields, bringing pride to the region.

Thakur emphasized that merging the girls’ school could negatively affect the education, safety, and discipline of female students. In tribal and mountainous areas, he noted, the existence of separate girls’ schools is crucial to encourage female education. He further stated that the decision also hurts the religious and social sentiments of the local community, including the priests of the historic 84 temples of Bhramour.

He demanded that the state government reconsider and revoke the merger, warning that if the decision is not withdrawn, the local population along with the temple priests will be compelled to launch a democratic protest. Responsibility for any such movement, he said, would rest entirely with the government.

In conclusion, Thakur urged the authorities to safeguard the future of girl students by keeping the institution intact and preserving its independent identity
