Dharamshala: A three-day international cardiology conference, Him-Cardiocon 2025, concluded successfully here on Saturday (December 20, 2025), with leading heart specialists warning that unhealthy lifestyles have emerged as the biggest threat to young hearts while underlining new directions in cardiac treatment.
Organised jointly by the Himachal Heart Institute, Mandi, and the Himalayan Medical Research Society, the conference was held from December 19 to 21 and witnessed participation from around 200 cardiologists from across the country.
Experts at the conference deliberated on advancement in the management of heart diseases, emerging technologies in cardiology and the alarming rise in heart attack cases among younger age groups.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Amit Verma said stress-driven lifestyles, frequent consumption of junk food, substance abuse, inadequate sleep and lack of physical activity were key contributors to cardiovascular diseases among youth.
Highlighting the clinical shift, speakers stressed the need for early screening, lifestyle modification and adoption of minimally invasive and technology-driven interventions to curb the growing burden of heart ailments.

Conference organising chairman Dr Kunal Mahajan said such academic platforms would play a crucial role in strengthening cardiac care services in Himachal Pradesh. “Regular knowledge exchange and exposure to the latest treatment protocols will help improve outcomes for heart patients in the state,” he said.
The event concluded with a call for greater public awareness and coordinated efforts between clinicians, researchers and policymakers to tackle lifestyle-related heart diseases.
