Under the leadership of Dr. Keshav Chand Garg (MDS), President of the Himachal Pradesh Dental Health Services and Welfare Society, private dentists from the Ghumarwin region submitted a joint representation to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh highlighting key issues and demands concerning dental practitioners.

Dr. Garg stated that a large number of qualified BDS and MDS dentists in the state remain unemployed, while the number of government dental posts is extremely limited. He urged the government to create regular posts for Dental Medical Officers on a batch-wise basis and ensure recruitment through the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission.

He further alleged that some government dental officers are engaged in private practice in violation of service rules, creating unfair competition for private practitioners. The Society demanded strict policy measures and firm action on this matter.

In its press statement, the Society also pointed out that dental clinics generate minimal biomedical waste, yet they are charged ₹1200 per month as disposal fees. Calling this unjust, the Society demanded that the fee be reduced to ₹500 per month or that a separate biomedical waste policy be framed specifically for dental clinics.

Additionally, the Society sought an extension of the validity of registration with the Himachal Pradesh State Dental Council to five years, in order to reduce unnecessary financial and administrative burdens on dentists.

Local private dentists including Dr. Akshay, Dr. Bannister, Dr. Shivam, Dr. Rakhshit, Dr. Kritika, Dr. Vandana, Dr. Neerja, Dr. Richa, and Dr. Vishruti were also present and expressed their support for the Society’s demands.

The Society expressed hope that the state government will take prompt and positive decisions on these issues to further strengthen dental health services in Himachal Pradesh.
