Himachal BJP holds major rally in Dharamshala today to protest 3-year 'misrule' of Congress govt

Heavy security at Zorawar Stadium; multiple barricades raised to stop march towards Assembly

Dharamshala:
The Bharatiya Janata Party is set to stage a massive demonstration in Dharamshala on Thursday (December 4, 2025), marking its opposition to what it terms as the Congress government’s “failed” three-year tenure in Himachal Pradesh.

Participants from various parts of the state began arriving in the city late Thursday night ahead of the show of strength at Zorawar Stadium.

Anticipating a crowd and the potential for political escalation, authorities have turned the stadium and the surrounding Assembly complex into high-security zones. Police personnel have been deployed in large numbers, while barricades have been erected across approach roads to prevent any attempt by protestors to march towards the Vidhan Sabha.

Sukhu govt has let down all sections, says Bindal

State BJP chief Dr Rajeev Bindal alleged that the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government has let down every major section of society — from unemployed youth and government employees to farmers, pensioners, women and business owners.

He claimed that law and order in the state has collapsed, citing incidents of broad daylight firing and rising cases of heinous crimes. “This government has proved to be the most directionless and corrupt administration the state has ever seen,” he said, adding that the protest is part of the party’s campaign slogan — ‘Three years of system breakdown — Replace the corrupt Congress government.’

Attacks ruling party over unpaid dues

Bindal further said that the state owed dues for three years of financial assistance promised to nearly 28 lakh women, and claimed that liabilities towards employees and pensioners were around Rs 10,000 crore. He asserted that the agitation would remain peaceful but warned that any disruption or provocation would rest on the government’s shoulders. The rally, he said, would witness the presence of the party’s full organisational leadership, MPs, MLAs and workers from the women and youth wings.

The BJP chief also condemned the recent police lathi-charge on ABVP members, calling it an attempt to silence young voices and a “blow to democracy.” He said the party would not remain silent on what he termed as an attack on students’ rights.

The rally is expected to draw large numbers as the BJP attempts to build momentum ahead of the panchayat elections and the next Assembly poll in Himachal Pradesh.
