Shimla— Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has launched a scathing attack on the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Himachal Pradesh government, accusing it of insensitivity and administrative failure in critical sectors like healthcare and education.
Speaking from Shimla, Thakur alleged that the government has neglected patients suffering from life-threatening diseases, particularly those dependent on the Himcare health scheme. “People are being forced to borrow money or forgo treatment altogether. The Himcare scheme, initiated with noble intent by the previous government, has been reduced to a hollow promise,” he said. “Cancer patients are battling not just the disease but also the government’s apathy.”
Thakur further criticized the Chief Minister for allegedly masking governance failures with “fabricated narratives and propaganda.” He said, “This government, which claims to bring happiness, is instead causing distress. Selling family heirlooms for treatment is not the kind of progress people voted for.”
Education Crisis: Children Studying Under Tarpaulin
Highlighting the deteriorating condition of public education, Thakur pointed to the closure of over 1,500 schools and cited a recent report from the Chopal constituency, where 116 children — including 28 pre-nursery students — are studying under a tarpaulin due to a collapsed school wall. “Despite the danger, no temporary arrangements have been made. How can we talk of world-class education when children lack even a safe roof?” he asked.
He condemned the government’s failure to rebuild the damaged infrastructure and provide basic amenities like toilets, calling it a betrayal of the state’s children and their future. “Parents are now considering protests. The government’s advertisements cannot hide the ground reality for long,” Thakur added.
Upcoming Visit to Sujanpur for Women’s Honour Ceremony
Jairam Thakur is currently on a visit to Hamirpur district. On Sunday, he will attend a women’s honour ceremony as chief guest at Bhareta Ground in Sujanpur constituency. He accused the Sukhu government of failing to fulfill promises made to women and said, “Every section of society feels betrayed. The government has let down our mothers and sisters.”
