A high-level meeting chaired by Dr. Asha Lakra, Member of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), was held today at Bachat Bhawan, Chamba, to review the implementation of constitutional safeguards and welfare schemes for tribal communities in the district.

Dr. Lakra emphasized that all departmental schemes must be effectively extended to tribal beneficiaries to ensure protection of their rights and inclusive development. She reviewed progress across various sectors and directed officials to prioritize outreach and accessibility.

During the health services review, she instructed the Chief Medical Officer to organize health camps at the sub-divisional level and called for targeted screening of sickle cell anemia among the Gujjar community.

She also assessed the implementation of MGNREGA, directing officials to provide detailed data on employment offered to pregnant women and persons with disabilities.

Addressing infrastructure needs, Dr. Lakra requested a copy of the office note regarding the proposed Hatli–Sihunta–Chamba–Tissa–Pangi National Highway, aimed at improving connectivity for tribal sub-division Pangi.

She instructed the Public Works Department to prepare proposals for constructing biodigester toilets at various bus stops, and urged the Animal Husbandry Department to prioritize local breed conservation for sheep and goat rearers.

Dr. Lakra also reviewed schemes related to housing, education, electricity, drinking water, agriculture, horticulture, financial inclusion, and skill development, including PMAY-G, CM Housing Scheme, and Swarn Jayanti Ashray Yojana.

Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal welcomed Dr. Lakra and assured effective implementation of decisions taken during the meeting. Key officials including SP Abhishek Yadav, ADM Bharmour Kulbir Singh Rana, Assistant Commissioner Aparajita Chandel, CMO Dr. Vipin Thakur, and District Development Officer Tevendra Chanoria were present.

Earlier, Dr. Lakra met with representatives of tribal organizations, including Surjeet Bharmouri (Bharmour region), Bhakt Ram Badotra (Pangwal Ekta Manch), and Hasnuddin (Gujjar community), who shared community-specific concerns and requested support for developmental projects through the NCST.
