MANDI:
Marking the 150th birth anniversary of Iron Man of India and architect of national unity Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a grand “Run for Unity” was organised in Mandi on Friday (October 31, 2025).
The event began from Paddal Ground and culminated at Seri Manch, drawing large participation from students, citizens and political representatives.
Rajya Sabha MP Indu Goswami graced the event as chief guest. She offered floral tributes at the statue of Sardar Patel and lauded his unmatched contribution in unifying the country.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel has been celebrated as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas since 2014. Patel’s vision of a united and modern India continues to guide our nation. The Run for Unity is not just an event — it’s a reminder of the strength that lies in our collective resolve,” said Goswami in her address.

The MP noted that similar programmes were being held across all districts of Himachal Pradesh, reflecting the widespread participation and commitment towards Patel’s ideals. She also appreciated the active involvement of youth in spreading the message of unity and national pride.
At the Seri Manch, several local leaders, including MLAs Anil Sharma (Mandi Sadar) and Inder Singh Gandhi (Balh), also addressed the gathering. They described Sardar Patel as the binding force behind independent India and urged the younger generation to take inspiration from his courage, discipline, and statesmanship.
“Sardar Patel’s leadership turned the dream of one India into a reality. It is the duty of our youth to uphold his vision and contribute to the nation’s progress,” said Anil Sharma.
The event also saw participation from former minister Bhim Sen, who emphasised the need for continued efforts to preserve the unity and integrity Patel had envisioned.
The programme was part of the nationwide observance of National Unity Day initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with major events held in Dharamshala, where former CM Jai Ram Thakur participated, and in Una and Hamirpur, where former Union Minister Anurag Thakur led the event.
The event in Mandi was organised under the banner of the BJP Mandi district team, which played a significant role in its success. Those present included BJP district president Nihal Chand Sharma, district co-incharge Bhim Sen, zila parishad chairman Pal Verma, municipal councillor Virender Bhatt, Manchali Thakur, Karan Thakur, media incharge Rakesh Walia, Gobind Thakur, Dr Vandana Jaggi, Suman and several mandal presidents and party workers.
