Mandi Municipal Corporation Initiates a 60-Day Cleanliness Drive

The Mandi Municipal Corporation has launched the “Clean City, Prosperous City” campaign to promote cleanliness and environmental sustainability. The campaign was formally inaugurated on February 10, 2025, by Mayor Virendra Bhatt Sharma at Seri Stage after seeking blessings at the Baba Bhootnath Temple. The drive will run for 60 days, from February 10 to April 9, 2025, with a focus on waste management, citizen participation, and environmental awareness.

Municipal Commissioner H.S. Rana will oversee the campaign, while Additional Commissioner Vijay Kumar will serve as the chief coordinator. The initiative will engage government and non-government organizations, trade associations, self-help groups, schools, colleges, taxi unions, hotel associations, and the general public to ensure its success.

Key Activities of the Campaign


1. Inaugural Ceremony (February 10, 2025)

  • The campaign was officially launched at Seri Stage.
  • A dialogue session with sanitation workers was held to acknowledge their contributions.

2. Public Awareness Press Conference (February 11, 2025)

  • A press conference was organized to outline the campaign’s objectives, targets, and action plan.

3. Identification of Garbage Hotspots (February 13-14, 2025)

  • Key garbage-prone areas in the city were identified.
  • Citizens were educated on the importance of waste segregation and responsible disposal.

4. Household Survey (February 15 – March 31, 2025)

  • A door-to-door survey will be conducted to assess waste segregation practices.
  • Informal waste workers and rag pickers will be included in the initiative.

5. Institutional Awareness Programs

  • Meetings will be held with hotels, restaurants, and industries to promote waste management practices.
  • Workshops in schools and colleges will educate students about cleanliness and sustainability.

6. Urban Prosperity Festival (March 15 – April 9, 2025)

  • Citizens will be encouraged to adopt waste segregation, recycling, and eco-friendly lifestyles.

7. Grievance Redressal Camps

  • The municipal corporation will conduct solution camps in each ward every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
  • Residents will be educated on filing complaints online to reduce the need for office visits.
  • Key services covered include:
  • Waste collection and fee-related issues
  • Permissions for hoardings and canopies
  • Pet registration and trade licenses
  • Community hall and municipal property bookings for events

Monitoring and Encouragement

  • Regular meetings and review sessions will track the campaign’s progress.
  • Public feedback will be collected, and necessary improvements will be implemented.
  • Outstanding contributions from individuals and organizations will be recognized and awarded.

Mayor Virendra Bhatt Sharma urged residents to actively participate in the campaign, emphasizing that cleanliness should become a daily habit. He encouraged citizens to influence their families, neighborhoods, and communities to embrace sustainable practices.

Workshop on Urban Administration and Waste Management

In a related effort, the Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi, conducted a two-day workshop at the Dhansidhar CCDU (Community Capacity Development Unit) of the Jal Shakti Department. The workshop focused on rapid grievance resolution, scientific waste management, water-air conservation, and sewage management.

Municipal Commissioner H.S. Rana and Additional Commissioner Vijay Kumar led the workshop, with Additional Commissioner Rohit Rathore as the chief guest.
