Shimla:
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the state’s political circles, Ram Kumar Bindal (82), the elder brother of Himachal Pradesh BJP president Dr Rajiv Bindal, was arrested on Friday (October 10, 2025) evening for the alleged r*ape of a 25-year-old woman.

The incident, which reportedly took place on October 7, came to light after the survivor filed a formal complaint at a women’s police station in Solan.

According to the police, the accused, a practising Ayurvedic doctor, was taken into custody after preliminary investigations. However, following his arrest, Bindal was admitted to a hospital after he complained of chest pain during a mandatory medical examination. The Solan police have registered a case and are proceeding with the investigation.

Allegations of sexual assault during medical consultation

The survivor, in her police complaint, stated that she had visited Bindal’s clinic near the Old Bus Stand in Solan for treatment of a persistent illness. After trying several other treatments without success, she sought his help as a last resort.

The Superintendent of Police, Solan, Gaurav Singh, outlined the allegations: “The survivor claimed that during the consultation, Bindal, under the guise of examination, held her hand to check her pulse and began asking about s*exual health issues. After she confided in him about her medical condition, he allegedly assured her of a cure. It was during this ‘examination’ that the accused reportedly s*exually assaulted her.”

The police have since recorded the survivor’s statement before a judicial magistrate and collected forensic evidence from the scene with the help of a team from the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Junga.

CM assures action, women’s commission seeks report

When questioned informally by reporters in Oak Over on Saturday, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu addressed the sensitive matter, stating, “The government is taking action in this case. The law will take its own course.”

Echoing the need for a thorough and impartial probe, Himachal Pradesh Women’s Commission Chairperson Vidyawati Negi has taken suo motu cognisance of the case. She has directed the Solan SP to submit a detailed report and has instructed him to ensure that justice was delivered to the survivor. The case continues to be under investigation.
