CHAMBA:
The Pangi Valley in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district witnessed the season’s first snowfall, bringing life to a standstill in this remote tribal region. Continuous rain and snow since Monday (October 6, 2025) have severely impacted daily activities and connectivity in the area.
According to reports, upper regions such as Sural, Kumar, Hudaan, Saichu, Shoon, Udiin and Chasak recorded 6 to 7 inches of snow, making roads slippery and travel treacherous. Lower areas, including Saach, Finduru, Killar, Poorthi, Luz and Dharwas, also experienced 1 to 2 inches of snow, coupled with steady rainfall that disrupted access to essential services and outer connectivity.
Snowfall continues, locals struggle with daily needs
Snowfall and rainfall continued through Tuesday morning, particularly in higher altitudes where fresh snow kept piling up. Lower areas remained under intermittent rain and light snow. The sudden shift in weather has added to the woes of residents, who are now facing difficulties in mobility, cattle fodder supply and meeting daily household needs.
Footpaths and trails have become impassable in several areas, cutting off access to basic amenities. The transport system, already limited in this region, has also been adversely affected by the inclement weather.
Administration issues advisory, IMD warns of further snowfall
The local administration has urged residents to exercise caution and avoid travelling on higher-altitude routes unless absolutely necessary. Authorities are monitoring the situation and advising preparedness for continued cold conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more snowfall and a further drop in temperature in the next 24 hours, raising concerns over prolonged disruption in normal life.
