The Lahaul-Spiti district administration has assured residents that there is no shortage of petrol or diesel in the district, even as complaints emerged that the Upasak Filling Station in Keylong had stopped distribution despite adequate stock.
Deputy Commissioner and District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Chairperson Kiran Bhadana, along with DSP Rashmi Sharma, took swift cognizance of the matter and issued immediate directions. Acting under provisions of the Disaster Management Act and the Essential Commodities Act, the administration served notice to the filling station management and ordered immediate restoration of fuel supply.
Strict Orders Against Hoarding and Black-Marketing
The Deputy Commissioner warned that any attempt at hoarding or black-marketing of essential commodities would invite stern legal action. “Ample fuel stock is available in the district. No disruption in supply will be tolerated, especially in these challenging times,” she said while directing that fuel distribution must be carried out equitably for all citizens.
The administration has made it clear that filling stations cannot withhold supply during emergencies, as uninterrupted fuel availability is vital for transport, relief operations, and public convenience.
Disaster Management Measures in Force
The action comes in the backdrop of heightened disaster management operations across Himachal Pradesh, where monsoon-related calamities have necessitated stringent enforcement of laws to ensure smooth supply of essential items. District-level authorities have been empowered under the Disaster Management Act to respond to such crises, with the DDMA functioning as the frontline body to coordinate relief and regulate resources.
The administration emphasized that the Essential Commodities Act provides the framework to prevent profiteering and ensure fair distribution of critical items such as petroleum products. Together, these legal provisions allow authorities to take immediate action against any artificial scarcity during emergencies.
Appeal to the Public
Residents have been urged not to believe in rumors regarding shortages and to rely only on official communication. The Deputy Commissioner appealed to citizens to promptly report any incidents of black-marketing or malpractice to the administration, ensuring collective responsibility in safeguarding essential supplies during this period.
